Yudu Screen Printing Feed

It's like Christmas all over again!

I've been really busy getting ready for the Craft and Hobby Trade Show that will take place next week in Anaheim, CA...and while I can't show you all the things I've been working on right now, I can tell you that I'm super excited about all the new craft products that are going to be released there!!  I'll be doing make 'n takes and product demonstrations for Tattered Angles (woo-hoo, I'm now part of their education team!!), ProvoCraft, Unibind, and others...so follow me on Twitter if you're interested in what I'm up to at CHA.

Speaking of crafts and new products...I think I might *need* this flower maker I saw on When Creativity Knocks. (Shhhh, don't tell my husband - I'm sure he thinks that I do not need it!!)  My brain is swimming with all the possible types of flowers I could make!

Circle Journal Scrapbook Page Swap

Some friends of mine (from the Paperclipping community Crop Circle) and I did a circle journal swap where we each created a page on "music" for each other & then exchanged them so we'd have a scrapbook created by the group.  Here's all of my hybrid-scrapbook pages before I mailed them off.

I recycled the piece of plastic that is taken off of the Yudu emulsion when creating a screen for screen printing and used it with my Silhouette digital cutter to creat an iPod.  I glittered it up & used a plastic cord for the iPod wire.

I put my journaling (about my favorite artists) on the back side of the insert that goes inside the iPod.

I can't wait to get all the other ladies pages in the mail...it is like happy mail every day!

Supplies: Digital paper - Katie Pertiet at Designer Digitals; Embossing - Provo Craft Cuttlebug Embossing Folder; Digital Designs - Quickutz (music_player_icon, music_notes_1828); Transparency - Provo Craft Yudu Emulsion; Ink; Cord; Ribbon

Mixed Media Challenge: Stars

EPB-MMedia_Star1 I haven't done any challenges in a really long time so when I found a challenge this weekend on the Mixed Media Monday blog I decided I would participate.  The challenge this week is "stars."  I also found a challenge on the Melange blog about quotes, so this fits in there as well.  Bonus!

I used a piece of chipboard that I cut out in a star shape as the foundation of my piece and while I was looking through my stash for a sheet of chipboard I came across the Maya Road wings,  the Magistical Memories girl, and a Advantus Grungeboard heart and decided to incorporate them into it too. I used Tim's Stamper's Anonymous Stamps to create some texture in the gesso and then layered acrylic paint on it.  I love the way the background turned out!  After all that dried & I put a couple of coats of Golden gel top coat (semi-gloss) on it I used my Provo Craft Yudu to screen print the quote "Stay the course, light a star, change the world, where'er you are. " on it with Gold Yudu ink.

I wasn't sure how well the screen printing would turn out since my piece was pretty textured, but it really turned out well.  (Click the photos to enlarge them.)

Now, I'm not really loving the girl yet and I think I'll give her new hair when I get a chance.  I might also give her a charm or something to hold.  I made her by  "wallpapering" her with paper from an old dictionary and then painted her with acrylic paints.  For her hair I used some Golden soft gel on a piece of string to mold it into place & then inked it up after it was dry.  (I'll probably try to reverse that process & see if I get results that I like.)  If I get back around to fixing her up I'll be sure to post her "makeover" here on my blog.

The heart was simple...just put some of Golden's Micaceous Iron Oxide fluid acrylic paint on it.  I love that paint, the sparkles are awesome and my photo doesn't do it justice.

Sun and Scissors

Have you heard about the Sun & Scissor Retreat?  It's in Hawaii of all places & is happening in October this year and I want to go!  Scrapbooking in Paradise sounds like just the thing for me!!  They are holding a contest for a guest teacher, so of course I entered.

Erin_Bassett-Project_Photo1My project is a mixed-media canvas panel that combines painting, screen printing (with the Yudu screen printing machine) & favorite photos to make a piece of home decor.  I think it would be so neat to inspire and teach people how to create beautiful works of art that will keep their favorite memories alive long after their vacation is over.

Oh, and all those flowers...they're handmade!  Super fun to do too!!  Here's some close-ups of my project (click on them to see them bigger):
