Using Stickers for Art Journaling in Your Bible

One of the things I wanted to do while art journaling in my Illustrated Faith Bible is to try different techniques than what I normally do. Now as a former scrapbooker I have a ton of letter stickers and other scrapbook embellishments so I thought, gee, I should really use some of those instead of always doing mixed media.  So here's my first, albeit rusty, attempt.

Lately the theme of God's steadfast love keeps poping up all over the place for me, so while I love the theme of this one, the outcome is just...how shall I say it...boring?!

These stickers I picked up at the craft store and I just cut them up to fit my needs.

Once I had the word stickers in place I added some other leftover stickers.

And a touch of lace transparency.

And here's the finished result.  I'm not in love with the look of it, since it doesn't really feel like "me," but I will admit that it was MUCH faster!!

Here's another page I did recently.  I doodled the sheep in the margin and found another one of those word stickers to use.

I ended up painting a bit before I actually stuck it down.

And here's the finished page.  I'm liking this one a bit more even if it's not my usual abstract look.

So, what techniques are you trying that are stretching your creative side?

Another Mixed Media Canvas: Clothe Yourself

Who likes vintage?   Of course I do, but with a modern twist!  Sewing manikins are still hot in the crafting world and so I thought I’d create a canvas for Basically Bare with one using one of the Basically Embellies Dress Forms.

Erin Bassett - Clothe Yourself With - Canvas Dress Form1

I stared off by painting a 5″ x 7″ canvas using some of my favorite paints and stencils.

Then I pulled out three of the canvas leaves, and one of the small chipboard flowers from the Basically Embellies Bare Basics Blossoms & Leaves, and one of the bodices from the Dress Form set and painted them up.  While they were drying I covered the skirt of  the dress form with the chevron zig-zag paper.  I then adhered the dress form onto the canvas with Golden matte gel medium…it’s nice and thick so I can “slope” the edges around the chipboard since it dries clear, and then paint over it.

Then I just adhered the “leaves” onto the skirt with some more gel medium and added a few embellishments too.

I was careful to only adhere the tops of the leaves onto the canvas so that the bottoms could have some dimension.

And then I just finished it off by stamping on a scripture verse I paraphrased and adding some finishing touches.
