A Birthday Badge For the Birthday Girl!

Erin Bassett - Birthday Badge

My eldest niece is going to be turning 6 soon...and of course since she's super excited so I made her this birthday badge using Lifestyle Crafts Fancy Envelope Tab dies, Antique Doily die, and Nesting Circles die.

I created the number 6 with my Silhouette Studio Software and cut it out with my's the Silhouette cut file. {enjoy!!}  I then ran it through my Epic Six it with a ProvoCraft Polka Dots embossing folder...did you know that most brands of embossing folders and dies work in it?  Next, I used the Zig Emboss pen on each of the polka dots and then sprinkled clear embossing powder over it and embossed it with my heat gun.  At that point I really liked how it looked....but I knew my niece would want some sparkle on it!  So I dug out my Stickles, which changed the color of the paper a bit, but I am ok with it.  ;)

And lastly I just distressed the circle diecut and added some stitching around just about everything.  Oh and by the way, all those cute papers are Margie's Vintage Marketplace!!

Birds Of A Feather Canvas

BLOG Erin Bassett - BB - Pink Paislee - Birds Mixed Media CanvasYesterday my "Birds Of A Feather" mixed media canvas was featured on the Basically Bare blog.  It's a fun size one...12" x 6"!

I was thankful to partner up with Pink Paislee for this project.  They sent such great product for me to work with!!  And of course I used a bunch of awesome Basically Bare pieces on it as well!

Don’t you just love those little birdies? Each one is made of different Basically Bare materials….felt, chipboard, and acrylic.

This first bird was made with the chipboard bird....

The second bird was made with an acrylic bird...

And the last bird was made with a felt bird....

I used my favorite little heart punch for the tree leaves and used some Faber Castell PITT Big Brush pens for the shading on the leaves and trunk.  I also took a canvas heart, embroidered my our initials on it and some edge stitching, and added that to the tree trunk. That’s my favorite part of this canvas!
BLOG Erin Bassett - BB - Pink Paislee - Birds Mixed Media CanvasI also frayed the heart edges…like I do on just about any fabric I get my hands on.  ;)  To keep it from fraying too much I like to put some Fray Check along the fray so it doesn’t get out of control.  Once it’s dry you can’t even see it.

Breathing a big, deep, breath of gratitude for such a great time at True Scrap 3 this weekend! I loved that people stepped outside their boxes and got excited about mixed media.  I loved that I was able to share my passion with people and that they got it & learned new techniques that they could use on any type of project they are making...from canvases and art journals to scrapbook pages.  I loved that people wanted to make these projects for their family and friends for Christmas gifts.  And I loved sitting in on other classes too.  So much information, inspiration, and laughs!!!

I told everyone that I'd post some links to other mixed media arts that inspire here it is, in no particular order:

  • Julie Fei-Fan Balzer: You know the Crafter's Workshop stencils I love so much...she designed some of them!  I love the bold color choices in her work and that she shares so much of her process on her blog.  She also has a great series going on right now about Art Journaling everyday.  Oh, and if you ever get the chance to take a class from her in person do it...she's hysterical!  And a fab teacher!!

  • Dina Wakely: Dina's art journaling classes are fabulous!  She so thorough with showing the steps and talking you through them....and her videos are great!  Her art always has bold colors too, which is one reason I'm drawn to it!  She also is so good with journaling her present thoughts down onto her work in her wonderful Dina handwriting!

  • Connie Hosvicka: We talked a bit in my class about going BIG with your canvases...and Connie does just that...REALLY BIG!!!  One of the things I love about Connie is that she's a yoga instructor so she carries many of the practices of yoga off the mat and into her art studio.  -Plus her voice is really soothing!!  ;)  She offers a bunch of online classes too, some are free too!

I have a ton of other favs too, but these three will surly inspire those of you who are either new or experienced mixed media artist.  (Yes, you are an artist!!)

I've gotten a lot of emails & social media comments about letting people know when the individual True Scrap 3 classes are available....I will definitely let you know, it will be soon!  Also, I've gotten some questions about prior True Scrap 1 & 2 can check out (and purchase) those classes individually here:

Also, I want to quickly let you local ladies know about my friend Susie's Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fabulous charity crop coming up August 4th here in SoCal.  You can check out the flyer here.

Susie is raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society right now too! For the next few days (through Sunday, April 29th) a generous friend has committed to match every dollar donated through Susie's website. This is an amazing opportunity for Susie and for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and I'm hoping you are able to help out. Remember that $5 becomes $10, and $25 becomes $50… and if that tax refund is burning a hole in your pocket $100 becomes $200.

Please take a moment to click the link:, and make a completely tax-deductible donation if you are able. He will match your donation for 7 more days, so there is lots of time… but why procrastinate?!

Thank you in advance for your help and your generosity!

Art Journal: Flower Solace

The Zig design team was challenged to create something with the theme "spring bloom," and here's what I came up with...

Erin Bassett - Zig - Art Journal - Flower Solace1

All of the black ink doodles and words were done with Zig Millennium Pens and the background was done with acrylic paint, stamps, old book pages.  I cut out some flowers with my Silhouette Cameo (which is on comes with bonus stuff at Amazon right now! Check it out here!!), and adhered the flowers to the page, and then painted and doodled them up.

And then lastly I added this flower quote I really like by John Ruskin: "Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity."
