What we did at Inspiration Unlimited

Boy it's been hard for me to get back into certain routines now that summers over.  (Thanks, Pinterest for the pic!) Anyone else having issues with that???  Having a nice rainy day today certainly helps though!  I got to catch up on laundry and even made this video recapping the projects from this year's Inspiration Unlimited event that took place a couple of weeks ago.

 

 

Do you know what, I have a secret too...I didn't even bring a real camera to IU!  I figured a couple of things:

1) Everyone else brings their cameras so why should I?

2) This was my 3rd IU & I went with my BFFs...again.  So there wasn't a whole lot of "new" pics to take & when there were I just had one of my fabulous BFFs snap it!

So, with that said, if we took pics together at IU don't forget to email them to me.  :)

Fashion Accessories Mini Blog Hop

And here's my accessory...a paper beaded bracelet!

It's super easy to make these paper beads..just grab some paper (I used some of the Animal Cracker line, but you can use anything...even magazines & newspaper!), some type of glue medium (I used Golden's gel medium...but Mod Podge will work great too), and add a few beads (mine are made by Plaid) and some jewelry findings.

Here's a quick video on how I made the beads:

 

 

After all the beads are dry just string them and some beads onto a string..add your clasps..and you're done!

Aloha!

After working on this layout I'm totally wanting to go back to Hawaii.  It's been too long since we've been there!

I was assigned this Reminisce line for one of my DT projects at Remember When and was happy to remember that I had these Quick Quotes Frosted Flourishes that I wanted to use on something sooner or later.  The flourishes are made out of a thin, frosted acrylic and have a couple of pieces of bling on them.  I knew I didn't want to leave them "as is" so I figured I'd doodle on them.  

I used my Zig Painty FX pen (1.5mm) pen on them...here's a short video of how I did it:

 

 

I needed to use the stickers for my assignment, so I decided I'd sew a border around each of them. I also used my Distrezz-It-All to distress the edges of each of the photos, and a healthy splattering of Glimmer Mist too.

For the flower, I took two of the large Prima paper flowers and painted them with various shades of pinks and orange Glimmer Mist...layered them & put a sticker in the center...and then sewed them together.

Good News!

Hard to believe it's already June!!  Seriously is time going faster or what?!  

June for me means working on Fall and Holiday projects for manufactures and publications...which is kinda hard to do when every fiber of my being is begging for the warmer summer weather that SoCal has not had a lot of so far!

 

 

 

So, while I don't have a full project to share with you today I do have some great news!  My class at True Scrap is now available individually! You can also get the individual classes from the other instructors (Ali Edwards, Noell Hyman, Aby Garvey, Kelli Crowe, Lain Ehmann, Stephanie Ackerman, Tami Morrison, Tracey Clark, Nic Howard, Katrina Kennedy, Shimelle Laine, Jennifer McGuire) as well.

Fun with Fabric & an i-Rock!

Did you check out the "Fun with Fabric" sneak peeks on the Imagince blog today?  I'm totally loving what all the designers came up with!! 

Here's what I made: 

I just picked up an inexpensive hat from Target and dressed it up a bit.  

I created the flower and put a pin on the back of it.  {Want to know how to make flowers like this???  -Here's my video tutorial.}

Next I put a tennis ball under the hat's bill and a i-Rock heat proof template on top of it...filled in the holes with bling and then used my i-Rock to set them in place.  Of course I had to hold the ball steady with one hand, but it wasn't that hard to do and use my other hand to do everything else.

I moved the ball and template around to finish up the blingy swirls and also added some bling to the center of my flower.

True Scrap

Studio Re-do: Mid-Chaos

So if you follow me on Twitter you know that I'm re-doing my studio space.  It started just before CHA when we got rid of the futon that was in there and then emptied out the filing cabinets so they could get moved out.

And now I have a big 'ol mess!!!

I went to the hardware store and got a solid core door and had them cut it to 80" x 24" and also got some support pieces.  My husband built me this workbench that's at the perfect height for me to stand up and work...I just need to add some wood trim and paint to it.  I'm thinking of adding a glass top to it as well.

I've also made an Ikea run to get some cabinets which I can't wait to put together.  Assembling them got delayed since I had minor surgery on my ankle for a pre-cancerous mole that had previously been removed and then started to grow back.  {Get your moles check people!!!}  I've also been shopping for modern rugs, lighting, etc. 

Hopefully I'll be able to share more progress soon!  And for those of you that want to know what my space looked like previously you can check out this video that I did for Mixology Crafts a while ago.  It's evolved since then, but you'll see how small the nook was that I was working in was.  I can't wait to moved completely into the studio office and say goodbye to the nook!  

 

Faux Metal Embossing

Ok, technically it's not faux since we're using tin foil which is metal...however, this is a really easy (and cheap!!) way to get the look of pricey embossed metal.  

I taught this technique for the "Friday Night Technique Tag" at Remember When this past Friday and Karla filmed it for the store...thanks Karla!

i-Top Ring & Pin Cushion

I've made a couple of little i-top things recently and since we're having a i-top intensive week over on the Imaginisce blog this week I guess now is the perfect time to share them with you!

This is a fun little ring I made with my i-top and some cute fabric flowers.  The great thing with these rings is it only takes a minute to snap them together to create your ring and then when you're tired of it you can just un-snap it to take it apart and change it out to be a new creation.

I also made a little pin cushion.  I love quick and easy projects...I think it took less then 10 minutes to make it!  Basically it's a mini-pillow with a button in it's center.
