My One Little Word for 2010: Grow

Happy New Year!!

For the past handful of years now I've been inspired by Ali Edwards to choose a word for the new year...this year I picked "grow". 

 

This word spoke to me because in 2010 I will be going outside of my box and doing things that are challenging to me.  I won't go into detail on what they are now, but I'm excited at the possibilities and scared at them too.  I know the Lord is with me though and that He will teach me through the circumstances I'll be in.

I created this canvas to remind me of my word.  Here's some close ups of it:

 

I used vinyl to cut out "grow" with my Cricut Expression and used the vinyl letters as a mask.  I added some on Tim's Crackle Paint to the letters after I removed the mask.

Ahhhh, the holidays are almost over...now what?

So, were your holiday happy?  We had a wonderful Christmas and now I'm looking forward to the new year.  I always like fresh starts!

Here are some layouts I did for Imaginisce with the new Sweet Cheri line.  In case you "need" the banana cupcake recipe, you can get it here.

 

You can't see it very well in the photo, but I machine stitched around the whole layout with my handy dandy sewing machine.

Finally sharing some Christmas gifts I made

We had an awesome Christmas!  I loved having our family over and all the warm fuzzy feelings that go along with this wonderful holiday.  Here's a photo of my little niece...isn't she adorable in her Christmas outfit?  Love it!

 

Well, since my family could see my projects online I've held off on sharing them with you until now.  Please ignore any wonky photos...some of them I had to take inside at night.

First off, I made a few mini-albums.  This first one has those baby tags from Elle's Studio where you can record highlights through out baby's first year.  The album is a little one I got in the 1$ spot at Michael's a few years ago.

 

  

This one was another inexpensive photo album that I just embellished to jazz it up a bit.  I added the trim on the outside and then made a title page...simple and easy.  :)

  

 

 Then I made a little ornament/magnet with the Tilano Ornamento Kit...the glass is really thick so it's hard to photograph, but it looks cute in person, trust me.

  

 And lastly I used my Cricut to personalize some Pyrex by etching it.  It took under 10 minutes from start to finish & it makes me want to do more.  This is another object that's hard to photograph, but you get the idea.

When I was at the Polka Dot Whimsy Holiday crop this was one of the projects Michelle had for us to work on....I took my pieces home then last week I finally put it together.  I cut the letters out of fabric on my Cricut which was really fun to do since I hadn't cut fabric with it before.  I just ironed on some Heat'n Bond on to the fabric and then had my Cricut do the rest.  After the letters were cut I just ironed them on to the felt triangles.  I then sewed the triangles onto a long strip of fabric and then embellished.

Handmade Paper Christmas Ornament

I'm trying to get into the Christmas spirit now that it's finally cold here in So Cal...ok, not really cold-cold compared to where most of you are, but for here it's cold.  :)

Here's a Christmas ornament I made last nigh. It's fairly simple to make, but you do have to pay some attention to what you are doing so it ends up being a circle.  -Don't ask how I know that. ;)  

I used my Cricut to cut out twenty 2" circles out of Imaginisce's Polar Expressions paper, then folded each one into a triangle shape and glued the edges together with my Glue Glider Pro.  I then cut out some holly leaves out with the Winter Woodland cartridge and glued on some little red pom-poms. And lastly I Glimmer Misted the whole thing.  My finished ornament is about the size of a baseball.  

Now, I just have get the rest of my decor up!

Some of my Imaginisce projects and more!

First off...I thought I'd share with you some Imaginisce projects I've been meaning to post.

This first one is a scrapbook layout I did of my cousin and his boys.  My cousin is getting his pilot's licence, so I know sharing his passion with his children is important to him.  I took this photo of my layout a while ago, and since then I've put it in a frame so I can send it to them.

How To: Hairspray Photo Transfer Technique

When I was at Spark a couple of weeks ago (gee, has it really been that long?) Rhonna Farrer taught us a really neat photo transfer technique using hairspray.  I tweeted about it and got a lot of responses wondering how you do it so I put together a little tutorial to show you how.

For this technique I used...

• Avery 8.5" x 11" Clear Full Sheet Labels for ink jet printer

The Butterfly Project

In memory of the 1.5 million children that were killed in the Holocaust, The Holocaust Museum in Houston, Texas is collecting handmade butterflies as part of The Butterfly Project.  

Here is one of the butterflies I'm sending...pretty simple, but I stamped a powerful word on it: "remember".  The back side of my butterfly is the same as the front...buttons and all.

I put some Rock Candy Distress Stickles on it to give it a bit of glitz....unfortunately it's hard to see in the photos.
